While Jenna’s “How I cured my celiac disease” story is inspiring and research into the therapeutic effects of CBD is promising, especially in the treatment of seizures and other neurological disorders, the FDA is clear: Marketing supplements as having the ability to treat, cure, alleviate the symptoms of, or prevent developing diseases is simply not permitted by law. Yet that has not stopped Jenna and distributors from claiming that HempWorx treats a number of diseases, including Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, AIDS and cancer, often as an alternative to traditional treatments. In fact, TINA.org has amassed a database of more than 100 inappropriate and illegal health claims. They include:
Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of over 85 cannabinoids that is identified in the cannabis plant. CBD is becoming increasingly popular amongst the masses for having a wide scope of medicinal benefits – due to clinical reports and mounds of test data showing little to no side effects and a lack of psychoactivity (typically associated with marijuana products and high THC).

The term ‘cannabis’ is a genus name, meaning that all types of cannabis and hemp are categorized under this name, but not all cannabis plants are the same. CBD derived from Commercial or Industrial Hemp has been grown to be HIGH in levels of CBD and low THC whereas Marijuana is grown to be high in THC and contains much less and lower quality CBD. Our CBD products do not come from plants grown for Marijuana use.
Yes. All our hemp crops are grown free of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, so our quality starts with our hemp plants. From the time our hemp oil is harvested to the manufacturing and shipping of our products, we test our hemp oil multiple times to ensure accuracy in potency information and to check for contaminants like pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, and mold, as well as cannabinoid content. We also use a supercritical CO2 extraction method when we extract our hemp oil, instead of harsh solvents. CO2 is a much healthier choice than other potential solvents
Research is beginning to show that CBD is different than other well-studied cannabinoids. All cannabinoids act as ligands, meaning they dock onto the binding site of a protein and have the ability to modulate a receptor’s behavior. CB1 receptors are widely distributed, but are particularly abundant in areas of the brain, including those concerned with movement, coordination, pain and sensory perception, emotion, memory, cognition, autonomic and endocrine functions. Not only did prohibition mean hemp companies were legally unable to engage in interstate commerce, it also meant access to critical business services was often restricted. This includes banking, for example, because many banks harbored concerns about doing business with a company that remained federally illegal. Not only would that require more compliance work, risk management and due diligence on the part of the bank, it also would put banks at risk for money laundering charges and loss of FDIC status if the federal government enforced the laws on the books.
First off, hemp seed oil is oil extracted from hemp seeds. It contains very little CBD and is not commonly used as a source for CBD since the rest of the plant contains much more CBD. The claim to have a ‘full spectrum CBD’ is very strange wording. CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is a single chemical, a single cannabinoid, so it cannot be ‘full spectrum’ because it contains no other ingredients. This could be merely bad writing, or could indicate attempt to confound either consumers, or more likely sellers. The ingredients listed say hemp seed oil, CBD rich whole hemp extract, and flavoring. There’s no list of just ‘CBD’ alone. However, on the certificate of analysis provided by the organization, the percent of CBD comes out correct. From this we conclude that the ‘phytocannabinoid extract’ is indeed all of the cannabinoids together, but that more than 160% of that is comprised of CBD. Therefore, we can fairly well trust that this product does in fact contain the stated level of CBD, despite the confusing wording.
Among those sources, Lanier considers Colorado to have the most robust hemp program. The state’s agricultural program performs spot-tests of hemp plants while they are still in the field to check THC levels and will investigate the potential use of any illegal pesticides based on complaints. (Note that the 2018 Farm Bill, now in Congress, may make it easier for farmers to grow hemp and expand the number of states where it is grown and tested.)
HempWorx blew us away with the comprehensive nature of their Certificates of Analysis, and excellent sourcing standards, and commitment to education. We were disappointed by their full-steam-ahead focus on the financial incentives for selling (not consuming) CBD. Exhortations like “Cash in on the emerging $7.1 Billion Cannabis industry!” and “…we have a VIRAL product that requires zero selling!” were disappointing to read. This emphasis on their affiliate program (as opposed to a discussion of charitable endeavors) is a little different from other brands. However, HempWorx now makes product pricing and details available right on the site.
The Best way to take our CBD oil under the tongue. Our CBD oil drops are the most powerful because you place them under your tongue and they absorb right into your bloodstream. The herbal drops are by far the most concentrated form of CBD because you are getting in sublingually (under the tongue). There’s a 98% absorption rate with the tincture drops because the CBD gets absorbed right into the bloodstream. Count the drops out looking a mirror so as not to waste or take more than needed. Hold for 90 seconds and do not drink or eat for up to 15 minutes to ensure you don’t wash any away. You want as much of the CBD as possible to absorb into the bloodstream. Eating and drinking CBD oil is less effective since the stomach and digestive system break it down and it gets filtered out by liver leaving less CBD available to be absorbed into the bloodstream, and also taking much longer to notice the effects of the CBD.
